Head coach Pat MacArthur has chosen an unchanged backline after last weekend’s 59-24 victory over 14-man Watsonians in preparation for tomorrow night’s Super Series Sprint play-off final encounter. But he’s had to make three substitutions in the pack due to injuries: loose-head prop Andrew Nimmo, hooker Grant Stewart, and second-row Rory Jackson, all of whom have started every game so far this season. William Farquhar, Blair Jardine, and Archie Smeaton have replaced the inactive guys, while Jamie Drummond, Ewan Bulger-Hamilton, and Tim Brown have been added to the subs’ bench. Thomas Glendinning, a winger, is also back in the lineup after missing the last game. The last time these two teams played, Heriot’s came back from a 21-0 halftime deficit to pull up a draw, so Ayrshire Bulls will need to be at their best to avoid defeat.
Last week, head coach Ben Cairns remarked, “We talked about making history by making a final for the first time at this level for our club; this week, it’s about making the most of that opportunity. Matt Davidson, fresh off his duty with Team GB Sevens, will start at outside center for Heriot’s, moving Grant Hughes to inside center and relegating Aidan Boyle to the bench. Meanwhile, Cam Jones will replace Euan McAra at scrum half to face the team he played for last season. Sam Wallace has been moved to the bench, and Cameron Cobbett was unlucky to be left off the matchday 23 squad. However, the return of skipper Iain Wilson and fellow back-rower Ruairidh Leishman adds some much-needed experience to the pack. Chris Anderson, a loose-head prop on loan from the Currie Chieftains, has been added to the bench in place of Struan Cessford.
Given that the teams’ most recent meeting resulted in a tie, we are anticipating a close and competitive contest here. On the other hand, this contest is significant, and we do not anticipate a tie this time around. The best possible outcome can be achieved by wagering on the home team to win and going under the total score.
