Comme des Garçons, established in Tokyo by Rei Kawakubo in 1969, plans to open its first store in South America at Iguatemi São Paulo in May.
Comme des Garçons is known for its deconstructed avant-garde looks and gender-bending styles. The store will be designed by Kawakubo.
It will carry Comme des Garçons, Comme des Garcons Homme Plus, Comme des Garçons Shirt, Comme des Garçons Play, Comme des Garçons Wallet and Comme des Garçons Parfums.
Comme des Garçons joins such luxury retailers as Balenciaga, Loewe, Chanel, YSL, Cartier, and Bottega Veneta at Iguatemi São Paolo.
Iguatemi São Paulo is the first shopping mall of Brazil that sparked a demand for indoor shopping in Latin America. The shopping mall serves as a gateway for the luxury sector in Brazil, with brands such as Armani, Tiffany & Co., Ermenegildo Zegna, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Ferragamo.
Today, Iguatemi São Paulo shops open their doors to 50,000 visitors a day, and the mall has docent shopping services, luxury amenities and state-of-the art facilities. Among the stores featured at the shopping mall are Balenciaga, Loewe, Chanel, YSL, Cartier, and Bottega Veneta.
Last month, Balenciaga said it had selected Iguatemi for its latest store. The luxury brand opened a 3,230-square-foot boutique in the São Paulo shopping center. The store carries men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, shoes, bags, accessories, eyewear and jewelry, as reported.
In May, Loewe also opened in Iguatemi São Paulo a 1,238-square-foot store offering women’s ready-to-wear alongside bags, shoes, small leather goods, eyewear and other accessories. The store, which continued Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson‘s Casa Loewe concept, also marked Loewe’s first store in South America.
As reported, The North Face is once again teaming up with Comme des Garçons on an exclusive collection that blends outdoor functionality with classic design. The North Face x CDG collection will feature six pieces ranging from a wind jacket to a pullover fleece to a bucket hat. The collection will be available online on both brands’ e-commerce sites as well as at Dover Street Market stores and website and other select retail locations.
Comme des Garçons added the CDG line in 2018. Kawakubo and her business and life partner Adrian Joffe are also the duo behind Dover Street Market.
