Survival instincts often compel desperate decisions; the same can be said for Diamond Sports Group. The regional sports network of the Bally Brand is on the verge of bankruptcy. However, recently, it announced its final move in an attempt to revive itself. Notably, the network has joined hands with the NBA and NHL to broadcast the games, including 13 teams from the NBA. Surprisingly, two prominent team names were absent from the list: New Orleans Pelicans and Dallas Mavericks.

On Friday, Diamond Sports revealed the news to The Athletic and broadcasted hostility towards the Pelicans and Mavs for the 2024-25 season. Though the Pelicans have already arranged their broadcasting plans for next season, the Mavs are still in the dark. What’s surprising is that the Dallas Mavericks were the NBA Finals runner-up last season. And they are the strongest contenders for the Larry O’Brien trophy, especially with Klay Thompson‘s entry.

However, the final verdict is yet to be out. Diamond League cannot make the move until a federal bankruptcy judge approves it on September 3. Reportedly, the amount for the broadcasting deal has also got scrutiny. Yet no numbers have gone official from the court records. From the looks of it, it seems like the Pelicans and Mavericks parting ways with Diamond Sports was a mutual decision.

The Dallas Mavericks have already got national games broadcasting sorted with 9 games on ESPN, 9 games on TNT, 5 on NBC, and 7 on NBA TV. But what about the other games?

How are the Dallas Mavericks going to sail through the regional broadcasting to show the rest of their NBA games?

When WFAA approached the Mavs front office with any official remark on the Diamond Sports group situation, they quoted the NBA announcement, “The Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans declined to continue distributing their games on Diamond RSNs and will share more details soon on how to watch games for the upcoming season in their respective markets.” So there is not an ounce of official tip to kick off any speculation for the broadcasting rights for Mavericks games.

Reportedly, as per Dallas Business Journal, Mavs co-owner Mark Cuban stated earlier this month that the front office is looking to “maximize distribution.” The Diamond Sports network is already in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy category. So unless a miracle happens out of the blue, they are out of the equation.

Although there are speculations that the Dallas Mavericks might join hands with the Dallas Stars. Their new streaming platform, Victory+, might come in handy for the Mavs if they are on the lookout for expansion. Whatever it might be, the picture will get clear after the September 3 hearing for the Diamond Sports network.
