The Pistons caught the Bucks fooling around on Monday with Giannis deciding to take a rest and Milwaukee obviously not too concerned about facing a team it had beaten in 20 of the previous 21 meetings.
So, Detroit was able to hang within the mid-teens price even as its latest straight up losing streak has reached six, and now 1-7 straight up across the last 18 games as the Pistons are aimed straight for the draft lottery and their 14% chance at the top pick and Victor Wembanyama.
As Dwane Casey auditions players for roles when things hopefully get better next season, it’s apparent ex-Purdue Jaden Ivey is going to be part of the plans after leading Detroit ins covering the past two games and putting 32 on the Bucks.
This is still a Pistons lineup that would look more at home in the Vegas Summer league as Casey’s injury list is longer than the Lions’ from the last NFL season, with with Bojan Bogdanovic (achilles), Hamadou Diallo (ankle), Isaiah Stewart (shoulder) and Alec Burks (foot) all sidelined, and Cade Cunningham having been out since November.
No time for Oklahoma City to fool around as last night’s home loss to the suddenly-revived Hornets jeopardized play-in hopes, and we’ll see about SGA, who had to sit out last night with a bad ankle after scoring at a better than 32 ppg clip across the previous five games.
Recent form has still been mostly good (9-5 straight up last 14, even after the Charlotte loss), and Santa Clara rookie wing Jalen Williams is starting to prove that he can carry the offense, too, after posting 31 last night and looking a decent bet to be runner-up to Paolo Banchero for Rookie of the year honors.
Things are much-much different than over four months ago when these sides last met (March 7 in Motown), and Ivey the only Piston now available from the starting lineup in that 112-103 Detroit win.
“Totals” alert– even after the higher-scoring game on Monday vs. Milwaukee, the sluggish Pistons also on 12-4 “under” run.
