Teams can score touchdowns by holding possession of the ball in the opposing team’s end zone. A touchdown is worth 6 points. The team who scored the touchdown then has one play to try and add extra points, by either starting 2 metres (3 yards) from the end zone, which would give them 1 extra point if they can reach the end zone with the ball again, or from 9 m (10 yards) for 2 points.
A team on defense can also score points by grabbing the flag of a player holding the ball while they are inside their own end zone. This is known as a safety, and is worth 2 points.
The team with the most points at the end of the game is the winner.
One of the aspects that differentiates flag football from American football is the seven-second rule.
Upon receiving the ball, the quarterback must release the ball within seven seconds. The limit only stands for the quarterback and does not apply once the ball is no longer in their possession.
If the ball is not released within the seven seconds allocated, the play is ruled over.
