Kolkata: The state plans to promote tourism in a big way, looking to turn Bengal a target destination for all.
Even as she lauded the tourism department for winning international honours for the best cultural destination award at ITB Berlin a week ago, chief minister Mamata Banerjee named actor-turned-MP Dev as the brand ambassador of tourism. She asked chief secretary H K Dwivedi to focus on heritage tourism and finalize a proposal to boost the tourism industry.
The CM suggested to connect the film industry with tourism so that more shoots can take place here, which, in turn, would generate employment. “This is the cheapest destination for shooting,” she added. Bengal’s unique landscape with mountains, forest and the sea, needed to be captured by filmmakers and showcased to tourists, said the CM. “Today I saw that a film shoot was going on at Alipore museum,” Banerjee added, urging filmmaker Goutam Ghosh to capture Gangasagar and Ganga Aarti at Babughat.
