For today’s horse racing tips, our analyst James Boyle looks at the flat racing meeting at Doncaster, with three selections now online.

14:10 Doncaster – Nobody Told Me – 1pt @ 6/1

The cat is out of the bag with Nobody Told Me as he has shortened a fair bit in the early market. I’m still happy enough to play as I think he’s a winner waiting to happen at some point soon, with plenty of improvement expected now that he’s handicapping over a longer trip. All four of his runs for a mark were over 7f or a mile and based on his pedigree, that was too short for him to max out.

A few of them contained promise, especially the sole time he got to run at a mile, and he kept going through soft ground quite nicely at Thirsk on his final outing of the year. He was never likely to be a juvenile type anyway so with more time under his belt and a proper test of stamina, we’ll get to see what he’s really capable of. If he’s as good as I reckon, he has to be involved from a mark of 71.

15:20 Doncaster – Aleezdancer – 1pt @ 10/1

Aleezdancer is drawn away from most of those who could give him a proper tow into the equation and that is a worry, but he’s a talented horse with the potential to have a good season so I’ll have a dart at things panning out here. One thing that’s in his favour is the ground, with all three starts on a surface described by Timeform as being soft yielding victories, including a defeat of Lethal Levi.

He only got an ease in the early part of last season when Kevin Ryan was trying to get him to stretch out to 7f but he looks like a really capable sprinter, one that could be even better on testing ground. We’ll get to see what he’s up to today and I just hope he’s fit enough, as this is hardly worth much money so connections could have their eyes on something at York. Anyway, I’ll bet in hope as usual!

16:30 Doncaster – Cold Stare – 1pt @ 5/1

Cold Stare is a true mudlark and didn’t get his ground until late in the season last year, so never really got reaching peak form. He only bounced back once his rating was too low for him to be doing anything other than going well and even then only a couple of his performances were in line with what you’d expect him to do. That low rating still exists and if he’s not winning a race off 75 soon, I’ll be surprised.

One of those better runs came over C&D in October on heavy ground, only beaten a length into fifth in a 20-runner handicap. He’s 2lbs lower now and although he only ever won once when racing first time out (back as a juvenile), he was definitely ready first time last year when better than the bare form in a sprint here (rated 91 at the time). This looks like a solid chance for him to win again.
