Horse racing tips today:

For today’s horse racing tips, our analyst James Boyle looks at the flat racing meetings at Newcastle and Redcar with three selections now online.

As always, you’ll find up-to-date odds at these horse racing betting sites, but don’t sleep on our tipster’s predictions as those prices could soon be moved in by the betting public.

15:00 Redcar – He’s An Angel – 1pt @ 16/1

He’s An Angel may want at least another furlong to come into his own but might get away with 5f if granted a strong pace to sit off. He could never land a blow at Carlisle last time, a track where it’s often very difficult to make up ground, and did about as well as could have been expected.

That was only his second go in a handicap, the other coming at a track that did nothing for him, and he has been dropped another 3lbs to 56. I’m certain he can win off that and whilst this is competitive, quotes of 16/1 are worth having a go at. If he can cope with the trip, he’ll get involved.

16:10 Redcar – Venturous – 1pt @ 12/1

Venturous is into the veteran stage of his career but it’s clear that there’s still ability in the locker to make his presence felt in the likes of this 0-80 grade and hopefully he can get competitive. He never landed a blow over C&D last time but wasn’t helped by his track position and the pace.

Ben Curtis taking over in the saddle is a major positive given his record for the Barron’s and if they can get following the right horses, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him flashing home in time to threaten the judge. In this grade, any double-figured price strikes me as being on the large side.

20:30 Newcastle – Martin’s Brig – 1pt @ 25/1

Martin’s Brig flopped on his last couple of starts but the most recent one came on the back of a couple of months off the track and maybe his fitness wasn’t where it needed to be. He ran as if he wasn’t primed to be at his best and we could see a different proposition this time around.

It’s only three runs since he was narrowly denied a win off 59 at Redcar, 3lbs higher than he’s rated today, and he was also second over C&D off 60 in February. It’s never as simple as just weights and measures but 25/1 about a horse who can mix it with any of these, on a good day, looks big.
