After England’s decision to pull out of the tour of Pakistan in 2021, the Asian giants will get another opportunity to host Jos Buttler’s men this year. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that the England men’s cricket team will be touring the nation this year for a 7-match T20I series in September-October.

The social media account of Iceland Cricket, which is known for its witty takes, took to Twitter to poke fun at the tour announcement, suggesting there’s still no guarantee that England would actually tour Pakistan for the said series.

“All fans should reserve accommodation based on ‘pay on arrival’ with a cancellation option up to the day before the game. These days, a tour is not a tour until it’s a tour,” Iceland Cricket tweeted.

As many fans mistook the tweet as an attempt from Iceland Cricket to troll Pakistan, the Irish body issued a clarification. “The fans certainly misinterpreted this Tweet. This one was about the likelihood of England cancelling a tour to Pakistan, just like they had done in 2021,” the second tweet read.

The England Cricket Board (ECB) had decided to not send its men’s and women’s teams to Pakistan after New Zealand had pulled out of the tour of Pakistan just hours before the first ball of the series opener was to be bowled. NZC had cited a security threat as the reason behind such a decision. In the wake of such a situation, ECB also decided against going ahead with the series last year.

Now, England and Pakistan will play 7 T20Is — from September 20 to October 2 — in what would be their first series in Pakistan after 17 years.

After completing the T20I series, England will return to Pakistan for a 3-match Test series in December. Both series could’ve taken place together but had to be scheduled at different intervals due to the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia in October-November.
