Shillong: The Union ministry of tourism is organising the 11th edition of International Tourism Mart here from November 21 to 23, which is scheduled to be inaugurated by Union minister of tourism, culture and DoNER, G Kishan Reddy and will be attended by tourism ministers of northeastern states, seniors officials and heads of tourism and hospitality associations.
It is an annual event held in one of the northeastern states on rotation basis with an objective to provide a bigger platform to the northeastern stakeholders to interact with their counterparts from both within the country and overseas markets as well as to create awareness about the tourism potential of the region.
“The International Mart has been planned as a Green Event by adopting low carbon options on the lines of the action points formulated by Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change for implementation of ‘Mission LiFE’ and sensitizing the tourism stakeholders and generating greater awareness about its objectives. There will be no use of SUP (single-use plastic) and a digital and paperless route will be followed as well as a tree plantation drive will be undertaken,” an official statement said on Monday.

Notifying Maimollem as wetland will boost its tourism profile: SalkarThe local MLA in Vasco, Krishna Salkar, is urging residents to support the proposal to declare the Maimollem water body as a wetland. Salkar believes that this designation will enhance the tourism profile of the area and benefit the town. The Maimollem lake has been unchanged for 50 years but now faces sewage accumulation. The wetland authority has issued a notification and is seeking feedback on the proposal. Salkar highlights that declaring the lake a wetland would enable activities such as boating for tourists, and emphasizes the importance of conserving the lake for future generations.
