Talented receivers are dropping like flies across the NFL. Just last week, Chris Godwin and Brandon Aiyuk went down with season-ending injuries. Godwin and Aiyuk join Rashee Rice, Hollywood Brown, and Rashid Shaheed on the list of exciting receivers who are done for the year.
Multiple receivers have also missed multiple games this season due to various injuries. Seahawks’ star receiver DK Metcalf is a candidate to join that list after suffering an MCL sprain last week.
The Seahawks have a tough matchup against the Bills this week and would certainly prefer to have their No. 1 receiver available. Let’s check in on the latest updates surrounding Metcalf’s knee.

Metcalf’s injury was originally described as a week-to-week issue, meaning it was going to be a longshot for him to suit up this week. Metcalf was unable to take the practice field this week which is another discouraging sign for his Week 8 availability. Seattle has officially listed him as doubtful.

Players rarely overcome doubtful designations to take the field that week, especially when they fail to practice in any capacity. Seattle fans and Metcalf’s fantasy managers should be prepared to be without him this week. Practice reports next week should provide some information on his recovery.
The Seahawks have one of the league’s deepest wide receiver rooms and have some talented players to lean on in Metcalf’s absence. Second-year receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and veteran Tyler Lockett will pick up the slack this week. Smith-Njigba will continue to operate out of the slot while Lockett will be the primary receiver on the outside.
Without Metcalf, there’s an opportunity for a third receiver to carve out a role in the offense. Expect the WR3 duties to be split up in some capacity. The Seahawks’ coaching staff will likely have personnel packages that utilize both Jake Bobo and Laviska Shenault as the WR3.
