Northwest Suburbs: A Burgeoning Destination for Tourism and Conventions
In the bustling landscape of Chicago’s Northwest suburbs, a transformation is underway. With an influx of 3 million overnight visitors in 2023 and a 6.5% surge in gross sleeping room revenue, the region is quickly becoming a hub for tourism and business events. Heather Larson, the president and CEO of Meet Chicago Northwest, the area’s convention and visitors bureau, is optimistic about the continued growth in 2024.
A Trio of Catalysts
Three significant projects are expected to fuel the upward trajectory of tourism in the Northwest suburbs. The Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel recently completed a renovation, enhancing its appeal to visitors and event organizers. The much-anticipated construction of Andretti Indoor Karting & Games is poised to draw in thrill-seekers and families alike. Additionally, the development of a new parking deck will address the growing demand for convenient access to the area’s attractions.
A Shift in the Hospitality Landscape
As business travelers increasingly opt for shorter stays, the Northwest suburbs have seen a decline in extended-stay hotel bookings. However, this dip has been offset by the burgeoning group meetings and conventions sector. Meet Chicago Northwest, which represents eight vibrant communities, has successfully promoted the area as an ideal destination for events and leisure visits.
A Promising Future
“We’re seeing a strong demand for smaller regional meetings and conventions,” says Larson. “This trend, coupled with the ongoing development projects, leads us to believe that 2024 will be another banner year for tourism in the Northwest suburbs.”
With its prime location, diverse attractions, and a commitment to providing exceptional experiences, Chicago’s Northwest suburbs are solidifying their status as a must-visit destination. As the region continues to evolve, it’s clear that the story of growth and prosperity is far from over.
