Watkins Memorial’s Gracie James and the Lakewood girls golf team finished on top of the Licking County League on Wednesday for the second consecutive day.
James fired a school-record 68 at Raccoon International to win the second LCL event of the season. She shot 70 to win at St. Albans on Tuesday.
Lakewood totaled an identical 336 from its victory Tuesday, edging Granville’s 340, which improved by two strokes. Watkins was a close third at 357 just ahead of Newark Catholic’s 360.
Avery Thompson shot 78 to again take runner-up individually for the Lancers. Granville’s Lydia Wigal followed at 79, Watkins’ Mallory Myers 80 and Lakewood’s Abigail Colley 81 among the top five.
Also placing in the top 10 were Granville’s Olivia Jones at 82, Utica’s Olivia Dickson 83, Licking Valley’s Jacqueline Gieseler and Lakewood’s Lexi French 84 apiece and NC’s Caylee Lattimer 85.
Rounding out the top 15 were Valley’s Nataley Banks at 86, Granville’s Hannah Huggins 87, NC’s Sam Spearman 89 and NC’s Natalie Holskey, Utica’s Brooklyn Fender and Valley’s Sylvie Devore 91 each.
BOYS GOLF
Newark’s Bolte fires 75
Newark put two players in the 70s at Darby Creek during the first Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division meet of the season.
Mitch Bolte shot 75 followed by Griffin Richards’ 79. Ryan Wamer added a 101 and Adam Tucker 107 for the Wildcats, who totaled 362.
GIRLS TENNIS
Watkins sweeps
Watkins Memorial did not drop a set in beating host Logan 5-0.
Kaiya Minier, 6-2, 7-5, Abigail Richardson, 6-4, 6-3, and Claudia Schaar, 6-1, 6-1, won singles matches for the Warriors (2-1). Terah Severance and Payton Zerkle, 6-1, 6-2, and Jenna Share and Riley Janiszewski, 6-0, 6-1, won doubles matches.
Newark falls at Marietta
Andy Hupp picked up a victory, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3 singles for Newark (1-1) in a 4-1 loss at Marietta.
