The NCAA March Madness is one of the oldest sporting tourneys and with the raucous and intimate fanbases behind them, colleges vying for the top spot and some colleges are content even with a win or two given the level of competition. The Aggies ended up with 25 wins and nine looses and finished second in the highly competitive SEC MBB Conference. They play a physical brand of basketball and had the most free-throw attempts and makes of any team. They also committed 13h most fouls and thus, their games can be slow-paced. They are a strong defensive team and can dent the passing lanes or scoring opportunities. Wade Taylor led the scoring effort, averaging over 16 points whereas he also led the team in assists and steals.
Penn State finished with 22 wins and 13 losses and finished ninth in the Big Ten MBB Conference, with their play outside of the Conference being more impressive. Penn State is a sharp-shooting squad and their coach Micah Shrewsberry emphasizes upon the long-ball a lot. Penn State made the sixth most threes, making 10.4 a game at a high clip of 38.5(13th best). The pair of Seth Lundy and Andrew Funk made more than 2.5 threes a game and Jalen Pickett led the way, scoring almost 18 points a game on an efficient 51.6%. He also led the team in rebounds and assists.
These two play contrasting style, Aggies like to be more physical whereas Penn State loves carving out space. Penn State’s long-range shooting has been the biggest threat and that is what A & M would have to keep a keen eye on. I believe this will be a relatively high-scoring game and Penn State may spring up a surprise.
