Looking for something to do in Wilson this weekend? The Wilson County Tourism Development Authority has you covered.
The tourism agency has launched a community calendar on its website, ComeSeeWilson.com, to keep residents and visitors in the know about upcoming Wilson County events.
“This is something we’ve been looking forward to,” Director Brandt Harrell said. “It’s the next iteration of Explore Wilson.”
Explore Wilson was a website owned and operated by Knipe Creative that promoted things to do in Wilson and featured an event calendar. Harrell said the TDA’s website is locally owned with board oversight, and public calendar listings are free for community partners.
Harrell said Barton College, Wilson Community College, the Wilson Downtown Development Corp., the Wilson Agricultural Center, the Wilson Rose Garden and Wilson Botanical Gardens are calendar administrators and will regularly update their events.
To submit an event for inclusion in the online calendar, scroll down to the bottom of the calendar on the website and click the blue “Add Event” button. From there, organizers can fill in the event title, description, information and image. The tourism authority will review and approve event submissions before they appear online.
Harrell said the agency has rules for calendar submissions, though a full list has yet to be finished.
“It’s only for events,” Harrell said. “It can’t be a fund drive or a monthlong campaign, and the event has to be open to the public. It can be ticketed or charged, but it can’t be a private event.”
The calendar can be filtered by date, organizer or tag and comes with a search tool. Harrell said sporting events will be listed on a separate sports calendar so the community calendar isn’t flooded with games. The sports calendar can be filtered by team, will full team schedules available as they’re posted.
The community calendar and ComeSeeWilson.com were both designed by Next Level Creative Solutions. Harrell said the locally owned agency was an integral part of the project.
