American Brandon Nakashima reached the second round of the US Open by winning against Dane Holger Rune, the No 15 seed, 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 in New York on Monday.
The American improves to 3-0 against Rune, with this win coming off the back of victories over Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz this hard court season.
For Rune, this is the Dane’s third consecutive loss in the first round of a hard court major. While Nakashima played some great tennis, Rune was poor, making just 39 percent of his first serve and striking 30 unforced errors across the one-hour, 55 minute clash.
Nakashima’s serving, on the other hand, was brilliant. The 23-year-old powered down 11 aces and won 84 percent of his first serves, not having his serve broken across the entire match.
Nakashima, ranked No 50, will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Arthur Cazaux and Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta next.
