U.K. production, sales and distribution outfit Signature Entertainment said Tuesday that it will be acquiring Latin American production and distribution company Particular Crowd, saying the “strategic acquisition aims to solidify Signature’s position as a key player in the global entertainment landscape.”
Financial details weren’t disclosed.
Created as an international original movie label of Warner Bros. Discovery, the L.A.- and Buenos Aires-based Particular Crowd banner “was spun out as an independent company to help it leverage its unique position and take advantage of opportunities across the global market, whilst maintaining a close relationship with Warner Bros. Discovery via a volume production deal,” the film development, production and co-financing company says about itself. “Its films are produced in English, Spanish or Portuguese and cover the popular genres of comedy, romantic comedy, horror, thriller, teen and family films.”
Particular Crowd’s recent successes include such releases as La Extorsión and Casi Muerta. “Both films secured top positions at the box office for local movies and proved strong performers on Max, where its movies are exclusively available locally under Particular Crowd’s volume deal with Warner Bros. Discovery,” Signature said.
Particular Crowd’s upcoming projects include Brazil’s Evidências Do Amor, which will be released theatrically this month by Warner Bros., and Aztec Batman: Clash Of Empires, “an original Warner Bros. Animation feature that places the iconic DC superhero against the backdrop of the captivating history of Mexico,” the companies said.
Signature’s original productions include the likes of Marmalade, starring Joe Keery, Camila Morrone and Aldis Hodge, as well as the wrapped all-star crime comedy Riff Raff with Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris, Gabrielle Union, Lewis Pullman and Pete Davidson.
Signature, led by founder and CEO Marc Goldberg, and Particular Crowd have collaborated on films in recent years, including on such co-productions as Paul Andrew Williams’ Bull.
Peter Bevan, head of Particular Crowd, will join the Signature senior management team as president of global strategy and distribution. “I’ve long admired how Marc and the team at Signature have developed their business to become market leaders,” Bevan said. “Our ambitions are aligned, and our collective strength will enable us to unlock huge potential in Latin America and beyond as we expand our slate of elevated content.”
Added Goldberg: “Having worked together on some of our early Signature Films productions, we quickly recognized Particular Crowd as a distributor that had similar intentions, and we were thrilled to agree a deal to acquire the company. Peter has joined Signature at the perfect moment, and we see him leading the charge as we look to grow further globally, beyond our core U.K. footprint.”
